MONでは、 画家・横山麻衣による個展「VECTOR MODE」を開催いたします。
iPadで描いたデジタル図像や水彩によるイメージを油彩でキャンバスに描き起こす手法を通して「本物とはなにか」を問い続ける横山麻衣。旅先で出会った遺跡や神話的図像、自然の光景などを起点に、永遠性を帯びたモチーフと非物質的なデジタル・ドローイングを重ね合わせ、記憶や可視性のゆらぎを描き出しています。
MON Galleryでは初の展示です。関西で見られるこの機会に、ぜひお立ち寄りください。
「VECTOR MODE」
本展の中心イメージにすえた「矢／←」という記号は、単なる矢そのものを表すにとどまらず、物理的・哲学的・感覚的な諸要素を内包する象徴でもある。本展における〈VECTOR MODE〉とは静止した絵画の内部に運動が立ち上がる状態を指している。宇宙の彼方に向けられる視線、うずまく水、放たれる光、巡る昼夜。それらは異なる速度と時間をもちながら、それぞれの方向へと進み続ける。
横山麻衣 （Mai Yokoyama）
1989年神奈川県生まれ。東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科博士後期課程美術専攻油画専攻領域（版画）修了。「本物とはなにか」という問いのもと、iPad上で描いたデジタルデータの元絵を油絵の具でキャンバス上に写し描いている。主な個展に2026年「The Undying Arrow」三越コンテンポラリーギャラリー(東京)、「Solar Phantasm」伊日藝術計劃 YIRI ARTS台湾)、2025 年「Dance, Like the Brush」春風洞画廊(東京)、「太陽の影で」KATSUYA SUSUKI GALLERY(東京)など。

MON is pleased to present VECTOR MODE, a solo exhibition by painter Mai Yokoyama.
Through a practice that transforms digital images created on an iPad and watercolor sketches into oil paintings on canvas, Yokoyama continually explores the question: What is real? Drawing inspiration from ancient ruins encountered during her travels, mythological imagery, and natural landscapes, she layers motifs imbued with a sense of permanence with immaterial digital drawings. The resulting works evoke shifting perceptions of memory, visibility, and presence.
This exhibition marks Yokoyama’s first presentation at MON Gallery. We warmly invite you to take this opportunity to experience her work in Kansai.
VECTOR MODE
The arrow symbol “←”, a central motif of this exhibition, represents more than a simple directional sign. It functions as a symbol that encompasses physical, philosophical, and sensory dimensions. In this context, VECTOR MODE refers to a state in which movement emerges from within a seemingly static painting.
A gaze directed toward the far reaches of the cosmos, swirling water, emitted light, the cycle of day and night—each possesses its own speed and sense of time, yet all continue moving steadily in their respective directions.
Mai Yokoyama
Born in Kanagawa, Japan, in 1989, Mai Yokoyama completed her doctoral studies in Oil Painting (Printmaking) at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts. Guided by the question “What is real?”, she creates paintings by meticulously translating digital images originally drawn on an iPad into oil paint on canvas.
Selected solo exhibitions include The Undying Arrow (Mitsukoshi Contemporary Gallery, Tokyo, 2026), Solar Phantasm (YIRI ARTS, Taiwan, 2026), Dance, Like the Brush (Shunpudo Gallery, Tokyo, 2025), and In the Shadow of the Sun (KATSUYA SUSUKI GALLERY, Tokyo, 2025).
